Anxiety

Feeling a certain level of anxiety over big stressors or certain life events is totally normal. However, if you find that your fear or worry does not go away and, in fact, gets worse over time, you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling and often passes quickly, while severe anxiety can seriously affect your day-to-day life. If you are finding your anxiety unmanageable, can’t identify the cause of your anxious feelings or if you are suffering from physical symptoms (such as heart palpations, fatigue, sweaty hands, upset stomach, or insomnia), it may be time to get help. Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s anxiety specialists today.

I have experience working with anxiety in kids, teens, and young adults. I have training in CBT and DBT for anxiety as well as mindfulness and body work. I work with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, school anxiety, eating disorders, PTSD, and more.

— Kim Lycan, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Richland, WA

I treat people experiencing anxiety – from occasional to debilitating. Anxiety is a response of our central nervous system to perceived or actual threat, and can feel in the body as if we have our feet on the accelerator and brake at the same time. Deciphering the deeper causes and triggers of anxiety, then learning some self soothing techniques are often my first steps, followed by correcting limiting beliefs in order to help my clients experience more freedom within their own minds.

— Julia Messing, Licensed Professional Counselor in Boulder, CO

Many clients I see experience anxiety. I work collaboratively with clients to explore coping skills and self-care strategies that may be helpful in reducing symptoms. This may include grounding exercises, meditation, and breath work.

— Emily Underwood, Licensed Professional Counselor in Beavercreek, OH

I am knowledgeable and experienced providing treatment and assessment for anxiety and anxiety related disorders. This includes social anxiety, phobias, sensory overwhelm, and worry. I provide assessment and information for OCD. I do not provide treatment for OCD as I believe it is important that OCD be treated only with Exposure and Response Prevention and this is not a modality I use. I do not provide treatment for trauma at this time

— Elizabeth Winter, Clinical Psychologist in Portland, OR

Has anxiety been useful for you before? If you think through all the possibilities, worst-case scenarios, you may feel more prepared. Worrying about too many things at once can get tiring though, especially when it becomes hard to control or wind down. Is anxiety getting in the way of your productivity, ability to relax, or think clearly under pressure? Through CBT, we can reframe the thoughts and behaviors that have become counter-productive.

— Lisa Andresen, Licensed Clinical Social Worker in San Francisco, CA

My expertise in treating anxiety lies in a blend of evidence-based therapies and a deep understanding of individual experiences. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns, while incorporating mindfulness techniques to promote emotional regulation. With a compassionate, client-centered approach, I create a safe space for exploration and healing.

— Ana Hauser, Post-Doctoral Fellow in Los Angeles, CA

Have you seen the movie "Inside Out 2" yet? If not, I encourage you to do so. Anxiety does not have bad intentions but it does show up in many of us as ways to try to make us perfect or different. But why? Together, we can explore your anxiety and finally learn what it is trying to do for you. Yes, FOR you. When we lean in and give it our attention, get to understand it and what beliefs you might be unknowingly carrying, we can work on helping it heal and relax.
