About My Clients
My clients come from diverse backgrounds, so I approach therapy from an “integrative or eclectic” perspective. Meaning, I work with you first to determine the approach that best fits you and your needs. I have supported individuals, couples, and families during all phases of significant change. I believe we all have within us the ability to move through hardships - as long as we have the tools and know when to use them.
My Background and Approach
As a social worker, my background is in medical social work, specifically Palliative Care and Hospice. I have a certificate in Advance Care Planning from Respecting Choices and Care Management from the University of Washington. I have spent time at the bedside with patients and families, exploring end of life concerns. I work with individuals and couples, having difficult conversations around chronic illness. I also work with parents and families who need support with a new Autism diagnosis.
My Values as a Therapist
At the core of who I am as a therapist, are authenticity, respect, and empathy. I have personally walked a similar path that many of my clients are walking. I am passionate about challenges and concerns that arise with a new medical diagnosis. It can be scary to receive a diagnosis and not know which way to turn. I often explain that navigating the medical system is like being on a train - as the patient or caregiver, you find yourself getting on and off the train at various stops, often not knowing which direction you're going. I can be one of those stops on your journey - giving you a chance to get off the train, take a deep breath, and reflect on where you've been and where you are going.
