About My Clients
I work with people from all types of backgrounds but I specialize in working with individuals (mostly women) who have lived through early attachment issues or religious/spiritual abuse or trauma. I primarily use EMDR and ego states in my work with these folks. I always take the stance of a compassionate helper and guide, honored to bear witness to healing.
My Background and Approach
I obtained my masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver's International Disaster Psychology program in 2012. I have worked in disaster response, community mental health, and private practice. In doing so, I've worked with individuals from a vast array of backgrounds. I've found that my passion lies in working with trauma survivors, whether "big T" or "little T" trauma. Oftentimes, people don't realize that what they've been through is classified as trauma, and that sometimes deters them from reaching out. But if you're experiencing stuckness in any area of your life, feeling it is difficult or impossible to move forward from your past, therapy can help. I use EMDR and ego states (sometimes referred to as "parts work" or Internal Family Systems) to help clients navigate their trauma and ease symptoms so that they can heal and move forward to a hopeful future. I also use the Enneagram system of personality to help guide therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe all human beings are worthy of healing and capable of change. I believe all human beings deserve dignity and basic human rights. I believe wholeheartedly that Black and Trans Lives Matter and I align myself with the values of those movements. I also believe in the power of therapy, especially when the therapeutic alliance (i.e. the relationship between therapist and client) is strong. I have lived in Colorado for 12 years, and my husband and I have three super cute kids. I love dance parties (and I'll likely encourage you to have one, even if it's a solo one!), musical theater, and Coca Cola Classic (I'm originally from Georgia, so it's only natural). I'm an Enneagram enthusiast and love how it informs our time together. I believe that incorporating joy into your life is one of the most healing things any person can do.
