About My Clients
My clients often struggle to see their inner-strength but believe they are capable of change. Whether its identity, self-esteem, or harsh beliefs, many of my clients are able to improve as a result of the bond we create. Counseling can be an intensive and uncomfortable process, I have learned that the clients who benefit the most from therapy learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. I wish to help clients become their own best counselor because no one knows us better than ourselves.
My Background and Approach
I bring a unique blend of personal and professional experiences to my practice. Raised between both Eastern and Western culture, I saw firsthand the need for better mental health practices. I moved from Taiwan to Texas in 2006 and obtained my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2023. My approach focuses on understanding how our environment influences our behaviors and learning how to make meaningful change without using shame. My main approach of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps us understand how our thoughts/feelings influence our actions. I want to create a more relaxed and fun environment that allows my clients to connect with therapy and learn to have fun with a tough process. I frequently incorporate things like video games, movies and anime because I understand how important it is to connect the things we like into our world. My background provides me with a unique perspective on the political, cultural and societal factors that affect us daily.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a climate change activist, Democrat, and an ally in the LGBTQ community. I believe in helping clients find acceptance, balance and stability. I believe people do their best when they are properly motivated and prepared for life's challenges. Therapy, in my view, should be an enjoyable and engaging process where clients learn to manage their emotions with humor and honesty. I teach clients to see the absurdity in their fears and laugh at them, recognizing that life's absurd moments often require an equally absurd response. I chose the term "Underdog" for the theme of my practice because in every story when the hero is facing off against a hard enemy or a dark force, we root for the underdogs because they give us hope.
