About My Clients
Sometimes we feel stuck, low, anxious or confused and aren't sure how to move forward, maybe feel like your coping strategies are no longer working. I aim to empower clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, to provide a safe space for self-paced introspection, to see what is no longer working and learn skills that better serve you.
My Background and Approach
I understand therapy to be a collaborative experience, where the client is the expert on themselves, just needing help navigating current or past issues in life. The therapist isn’t an enlightened being! We are all climbing mountains in life. Therapists are climbing mountains too but have the advantage of perspective from their mountain, able to see things on your mountain such as the rocky terrain, different pathways, or not using your pickaxe to your benefit. We can all get better at climbing and learning to appreciate the journey, that is what therapy work is about. I take an evidenced-based multimodal therapeutic approach, using an array of counseling techniques depending on the unique experience of clients, while leaving room for flexibility of evolving needs and newly discovered strengths. I currently provide Tele-mental Health services only, at Montelongo Mental Health, PLLC.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My parents were military, I married into the military, and served 20 years myself in the military, these experiences have given rise to my beliefs in the power of resilience, adaptability, and the importance of connection! Some of my interest outside of counseling are autoimmune brain disease, cognitive and experimental psychology, and neuroscience. Having a son with an autoimmune brain disease find myself an advocate for those who suffer from Autoimmune Encephalitis through speaking on and spreading knowledge where I can to those in the psychology/counseling communities of the secondary psychiatric symptoms that present in this disease. Highlighting the importance of ruling out primary medical causes of psychopathology and the complexity in treating refractory mental health problems in this population.
