About My Clients

I -love- to work with people who haven't gotten the shift they need from regular talk therapy. My clients come to me knowing that there's trauma to work through, ready for change and willing to "do the work" -- right here, right now in session with me by getting in the body with Somatic Experiencing®.

My Background and Approach

Because I see the mind and body as intimately connected, my lens in the world of counseling is colored heavily by physiology. Of course we'll spend a lot of our time talking about your life and getting to know each other, but my area of expertise is an embodied approach to working through unresolved trauma. I come to our relationship with a degree in Exercise Science, a prior career as a Massage Therapist and most relevantly, continual training in Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing® program. If you decide to work with me, you'll get to know me as a human being first and professional second. We'll laugh, we'll joke, we'll cry, you'll try some strange things... I'll ask you to slow down, and to try some more strange things... ultimately with an end goal of you unearthing your calm, passion for life, sense of connectedness and empowerment from within.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

“If you bring forth what is inside you, what you bring forth will save you. If you don't bring forth what is inside you, what you bring forth can destroy you.” Peter Levine (founder of SEI and the entire somatic movement) starts his book, "Waking the Tiger," with this quote from the Gnostic Gospels -- and it resonates so deeply within me. It not only encapsulates my deep belief in the importance of self actualization, but also how vital it is to own the primitive, animalistic part of ourselves. Anybody who has experienced or witnessed rage understands the danger in untamed survival instincts; as well as the power. Only when we are willing to explore these animalistic parts of ourselves can we also start to stand tall with full, conscious control and awareness of who and what we really are.
