About My Clients
I work with individuals, couples, and adult families from various communities and relational styles. My clients tend to be those who are committed to growth and demonstrate great courage in tolerating emotional vulnerability, self-reflection, and honesty during the therapeutic process. As there is no one size fits all in psychotherapy, each experience is tailored to the specific needs and desired outcomes of the people I work with. I value the folks I work with and support their growth.
My Background
I earned my MSW from Boston University in 1995 where I specialized in therapy with families and children, while also earning a specialization in group psychotherapy. I worked in community mental health from 1995 to 2003, and my post-graduate training focused on studying structural, strategic, & narrative family and couples therapy. During this time I worked with families involved with domestic violence, substance abuse, and psychological trauma. I opened my practice in 2003 and continued training in couples therapy including models such as EFT, The Developmental Model, Gottman, and Discernment Counseling. In 2010, after three years of study and supervision, I was certified as a sex therapist through The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. In 2015, I was certified as a supervisor of sex therapy. I am a supportive, direct, and fearless clinician committed to supporting my clients in the changes they want to see in their lives and relationships.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Talk, empathy, and insight alone rarely create lasting growth. In my 30 years of experience, change involves investing time, resources, compassion for self and others, and a courageous desire to heal and evolve. This requires building an honest therapeutic relationship, engaging in emotional risk taking, and making a commitment to working with difficult emotions while holding yourself accountable for shaping the life you want. What has happened in the past does not have to determine the present. This is hard work. Luckily, you don't have to it alone. I provide a respectful, supportive, and sometimes challenging, environment where we can de-construct the past and create a present that offers an opportunity to lead a more honest life and connected relationship. I deeply believe in the human capacity to create new options for living in greater relational possibility.
