About My Clients
The past few years have been a period of unprecedented upheaval. A polarizing election season, racial reckoning, declines in mental health well-being, judicial challenges to women's reproductive health and economic uncertainty. These times make many of us feel uncertain about the present and future. Through a lens of cultural humility, I hope to work with you to provide an environment where your strengths can be realized and your goals for yourself and the people you care about can be met.
My Background and Approach
I hold a doctorate in clinical psychology and developmental psychology. I am trained in cognitive-behavioral, multicultural, family systems and humanistic approaches to therapy. I have experience in KG-University settings and have helped to design systems related to student equity, trauma informed practices, social-emotional approaches, suicide prevention and restorative practices.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Much of my core beliefs are rooted in being a black man in the United States of America. I am the first in my family's generation to be born outside of poverty and am the product of the Great Migration. Throughout my career, I have worked on developing equity opportunities for students and colleagues. I have worked on initiatives for LGBTQIA and transgender rights, served on a governor-appointed board focused on child protection and have been a board president of an expeditionary learning charter school. I helped to put in place restorative justice and discipline reform strategies in a large school district in order to disrupt the school-to-jail track impacting black and brown youth. I believe strongly that we must have the space to view ourselves from a place of strength, instead of weakness.
