Addiction therapy will always have a special place in my heart. For over a decade, I've provided individual and group therapy, as well as educational lectures, for those with substance use disorders. It is so important to me that we recognize addiction as a coping skill that creates more problems than solutions-rather than as the core problem itself. I love working on early sobriety tools along with digging underneath the substance use to find out what really needs healing.

EMDR is so weird and so, so effective! We can use it to desensitize (lessen the emotional impact) and reprocess (gain space and perspective) the big traumas, as well as the smaller experiences and emotions that might be causing discomfort in daily life. Schema therapy has fast become my favorite method of understanding and working through problem areas. Generally speaking, schema therapy provides us a framework for understanding how early life experiences influence the beliefs we carry about ourselves, our relationships and the world. Most often we're dealing with the schemas that have become rigid, distorted and maladaptive over time, and are getting in the way of feeling happy, safe and satisfied with our lives.
