About My Clients
Are you struggling with addiction? Do you have a mental health diagnosis such as anxiety or depression? Are you unsure of how to address these dual issues and feeling all alone? Maybe you are even feeling fearful of being judged for having such struggles. If so, I can help! I know it can feel scary and overwhelming to think about how to tackle this, but together we can examine your issues to help you gain skills to effectively reduce your symptoms and live a life addiction free with confidence.
My Background and Approach
The tools that I’ll provide you I’ve been building throughout my career specializing in dual diagnosis since 1996. I have created a safe space for you to share your personal history so that we can gain an understanding of what has led to maladaptive behaviors to help us work together to create new coping skills and strategies to manage your mental health and challenge your cravings for drugs and alcohol. You will gain resilience to your addiction and learn how your mental health diagnoses impact your substance use and how your substance use impacts your mental health. In doing so, you will feel empowered and supported to address issues that come up in your day to day life that may impact your dual issues and feel competent in the skills you have gained by us working together to stay stable, healthy and sober. My approach is direct, honest and even challenging at times, but always comes from a place of care, concern, and encouragement.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One of the most important things to me when working with you as my patient is that you know I’m treating the whole of you as opposed to the diagnosis or “disorder” that brought you into therapy. I believe in building a trusting and open relationship between us so that you can gain the most from your therapy sessions. Please know that I am in your corner all the way and will encourage you to live your best and most beautiful life. And I will do all of it with a sense of humor because I believe that even when you are facing serious issues things don’t have to be taken so seriously. Lastly, I truly believe in underdogs because I was born and raised a Chicago Cubs fan and after 108 years they finally won a World Series in 2016, so if they can do it so can YOU!
