About My Clients

I offer compassionate, solutions-focused therapeutic care to individuals and couples, especially those experiencing depression, identity/esteem issues, or patterns of relational instability. With roughly three years of clinical training from the L.A. LGBT Center and over a decade as a high school teacher, I have particular experience with the challenges faced by adolescents, young adults, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, although I’m eager to work with anyone who feels I could be a match.

My Background and Approach

I provide a non-judgmental, compassionate, and socially informed therapeutic relationship, within which I rely primarily on the frameworks and techniques provided by psychodynamic, person-centered, and schema therapies. Trained in both depth psychology and solutions-focused community mental health, I use a conversational approach intended to reduce immediate forms of suffering while also fostering meaningful, lasting shifts in your relationships with yourself, others, and the future. In a consistent, safe, and attentive space where your dignity is recognized, your uniqueness is valued, and your well-being is the we'll work together not only to reduce your symptoms, but also to increase your self-understanding, agency, and hope. In addition to my clinical experience, I also bring to our work an M.A. in US History from UC Berkeley, with a focus on the history of psychology, as well as an M.A. in in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My commitments are to egalitarianism, kindness, and pluralism, as well as to a definition of "fairness" that views historical injustices as continuously informing the present. To put these commitments into practice, I worked as a US history and urban history educator for over a decade, a journey that brought me into college classrooms, secondary schools, and the San Quentin Prison University Program. After transitioning into psychotherapeutic work, I was fortunate to do my clinical training at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. I'm grateful for these experiences and the vocabularies, skill sets, and insights they've given me, as they often help me connect and build trust with clients quickly. Ultimately, though, my therapeutic work starts with the person in front of me--not with what I read in grad school or with work I did with a previous client. My true job as I see it is to deeply learn about, and provide care to, the uniqueness within each client.
