My Background and Approach

A Ph.D. licensed psychologist in Maryland, I am credentialed by the National Register of Health Service Psychologists and hold the Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards. My approach to counseling emphasizes the importance of the client-counselor relationship and creating a non-judgmental, accepting therapeutic alliance around your goals, no one else's. Trust and confidentiality are paramount. Clients need to know that their counselor will always behave in a professional and highly ethical manner. They need to know that no revelation is “too dark” and trust that everything will be kept confidential, without shame or judgment. They need to know that their trust won’t be betrayed. I utilize evidence-based, solution focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) and psycho-educational approaches to assist my clients to achieve their goals in the context of a positive client- counselor relationship.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

We ALL have had Problems. If we live long enough, all of us will encounter problems and situations that overcome our coping resources, at least for a while. Most of our significant problems are multi-determined with many factors coming together to create a “perfect storm”. Frequently, our own thoughts, decisions and actions contributed to the storm. But it is not as if we did so on purpose. Given the situation and how we conceptualized it, our problematic thoughts and actions seemed like a good idea at the time or at least the best out of several lousy options. No one is consciously trying to create problems for themselves, just the opposite. We are all just trying to get by and do better. We all want to be happy, grow and thrive. It’s just not always easy. Bottom line, there is no shame in having problems. Problems are just part of being human and sometimes we need assistance to find our solutions. I'd be honored to assist you in finding your new solution; your new path forward.
