About My Clients

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, families, and parents. Helping others overcome their current difficulties and function better in their life and relationships is my goal. Life can be difficult at times for all of us. I'm good at listening to your concerns, offering support and compassion, and then working with you to find ways to sit with and work through the feelings you're having. Together, we can find a pathway toward enjoying life.

My Background and Approach

My approach to working with clients utilizes a systemic lens, where I see people as connected to and influenced by the world around them. When working with an individual, I don't simply focus on them and their issue, but look at their relationships, both past and present. The ways in which people interact with each other have an affect on us, as do the other systems, such as school and work culture, religion, advertising, social media, societal messages we are exposed to, or what's expected of a minority or marginalized person. The list goes on. All of this applies to working with families and couples too. In addition, I try to reveal the overt and covert messages that likely are influencing how each client navigates life. Together, we work toward discarding the beliefs/messages that are creating obstacles and replacing them with more realistic and supportive concepts. I don't have your answers, but I can help you find them. I offer support and empathy along your journey.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I subscribe to the theory of oppression, which basically states people experience life through the ways in which we are treated and treat ourselves. For example, if you are a minority or marginalized person in our society, you very likely experience racism and/or discrimination/bigotry in your interactions with others. This influences how you see yourself and your place in the world around you, affecting your relationships with others. This idea applies to everyone, not just to marginalized people. All of our labels -- age, physical and mental ableness, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, indigenous heritage, nationality, and gender identification-- have an affect on us, whether it's adverse or helpful. The more we understand the eggshells we walk on and recognize the safe harbors, the more capacity we have to act independently and to make our own free choices.
