About My Clients
I enjoy working with clients who are faced with life changes, mal-adaptive coping mechanisms, struggles with personal identity, and relationship and sexuality issues.
My Background and Approach
I resonate with Humanist-Existential approach to therapy; You are the expert on your problems. As a therapist I am there to witness, guide, point out clues that may have missed, and cheer-lead the progress as therapeutic gains are made. I've spent 10 years as an addiction treatment professional. I am experienced working with a wide variety of personal identities, relationship structures and family rule-sets.
My Values as a Therapist
My graduate school was one that placed heavy emphasis on social justice, and this was a transformative experience for me. I am actively engaged in issues of social justice, LGBTQ equality issues, and overall human compassion and decency. I'm agnostic, but respect my client's own spiritual beliefs. I went through two coming out processes in my life; first as gay, and then as bisexual, having discovered how internalized homophobia held me back from being authentic. I have experienced a wide variety of relationship structures, and have also worked a good deal with clients in this regard. I've been sober since 2006 and I have discovered, both personally and professionally, just how powerful growth can be when one has a fertile and safe environment in which to do that.
