About My Clients
Life can feel heavy sometimes, you seem to be plodding along just trying to get through it, or worse, waking up filled with dread at what the day ahead will bring. You struggle to find anything to get excited about or look forward to. It could be that you have lost your sense of hope, optimism, and enthusiasm. Or perhaps a transitional event has occurred; a death, illness, divorce, job loss. Whatever it is that has caused your life to feel difficult I can help you navigate your way through.
My Background and Approach
Like many of you, I have experienced times when navigating life’s losses and life transitions have necessitated a period of reflection, reevaluation, and reinvention. Changing careers, being diagnosed with cancer, going through divorce, caring for a loved one who is dying, as well as the many losses and changes associated with midlife and becoming an empty nester. Experiencing these things sparked a curiosity and desire to learn more about what people need in transitional times, and how best to support those needs. I individualize counselling based on your unique needs by pulling from a robust toolbox of effective evidence-based interventions such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Distress Tolerance and Resilience Training. It is your path to chart, I will be your experienced traveling companion, helping you navigate your way into discovering what comes next.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a humanist and believe that you are resilient and have the capacity for change, growth and reinvention at any age. I know that you can not only successfully navigate this transitional time in your life, but that you can also learn and grow from the experience and incorporate what you have learned into who you become. I laugh a lot with my clients, and have an irreverent, approachable and natural style. I have many years of experience working with hospice in both patient care and grief services so have a lot of knowledge around caregiving, managing illness, facing death and end of life. I have a great deal of comfort discussing life's big questions and helping people discover what makes life satisfying and meaningful. I would be honored to serve as your companion and guide as you navigate this challenging time in your life.
