About My Clients
Throughout my career, I have always viewed my clients as pretty amazing and courageous individuals. Suffering is an inevitable part of life. Yet, each individual's suffering is unique. A starting point for change is gaining an understanding of the various factors that have led to the difficulties in life. As the suffering starts to make more sense, then we are able to collaboratively find options for making changes that lead to a more meaningful and satisfying life.
My Background and Approach
Having been a therapist for over 20-years, I have journeyed with many people through their suffering to create a better life. Building a good relationship with clients is my first priority. I utilize a collaborative, relational approach and strive to customize therapy with each client. I view deepening one's connection with meaning as a vital part of therapy as well as helping people have more fulfilling relationships. Throughout my career, I have been involved with teaching at the graduate level, professional writing, and seeing clients. This mixture has helped me stay current with the current psychology literature and research, which informs my approach to therapy. I view continuing to learn and grow as essential foundations to being a good therapist. Therefore, I am continually engaging in reading, professional development, and professional writing. As a member of PsyPACT, I am able to offer online therapy in multiple states.
Social Justice Issues We Care About
My family is a multicultural and international family. While multiculturalism and diversity were passions of mine prior to beginning my family, being in a diverse family has informed how I see and experience the world. It has made me a better therapist. I am passionate about working with individuals from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. In therapy, I utilize liberatory strategies to help individuals make informed choices about how they want to face the oppressive systems and individuals in their life. As part of my commitment to social justice, I have been involved in advocacy and activism on issues ranging from LGBTQIA+ to homelessness and religious diversity. My research and scholarship consistently focuses on multicultural issues, including publishing several books and journal articles on this topic.
