About My Clients
Do you feel as if you're not living life the way you want to? That there are relational barriers (spouse/family/colleagues), internal barriers (fear, stress, addiction, trauma) or external barriers (prejudice and bias), that prevent you from being who you want to be? Together we can explore all of this so that you can figure out how to change long-held beliefs or patterns of behavior.
My Background and Approach
Many people are hesitant to reach out and get therapy, and for good reason. They may have had negative experiences with previous counseling, or they may think counseling can't help, or is too expensive. I encourage you to contact me for an initial 10-15 minute free consultation so we can be sure we're a good match for each other. The therapy journey can sometimes take time, so you want to be sure the person accompanying you understands your needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I came into this profession through first volunteering with a rape crisis center and have since been an advocate and activist for many oppressed communities. One thing I've seen is that both in the general population and in the medical community, people like to identify people by labeling them. For some people labels -- either about identity or about mental health -- are very affirming, while for others, they are limiting. I help people see the positive side of whatever label they have and I help dispel the negative associations of any label that they struggle with.
