About My Clients
My clients have one thing in common: They want to feel better. Adults, teens, seniors, and children come to see me. They learn real skills and gain insights that help them manage their symptoms so they can become healthier and happier. When needed, I'm happy to meet with partners and family members as part of therapy.
My Background and Approach
I have a strong background in treating PTSD and general trauma, which can be defined as anything that happens in your life that negatively changes the way you see yourself, others or the world. I also have decades of experience treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, psychosis, OCD, ADHD and bereavement. I have certifications in many different treatment modalities, including EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), CBT (cognitive behavior therapy), CBT for insomnia, structural family therapy, exposure and response therapy for OCD, and hypnosis. I tailor my approach for each client depending on what they need and what is most helpful for them.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a trauma informed therapist, I believe in the statement "It's not what is wrong with you, it's what happened to you." I see a lot of symptoms of mental illness as a result of things that have happened in our lives and in our relationships. I also work actively to help destigmatize mental illness in my sessions and in my life in general. To that end, I have been trained by and been active in the Hearing Voices Network, an international organization that works to reframe mental illness as a difference and not a disability. As a mom of two wonderful kids who are a part of the LGBTQIA community, I am an outspoken advocate for LGBTQIA rights through my church and my community.
