About My Clients
I see clients who are gestational, birthing, or parenting and are wanting to work through their own experiences of childhood trauma and relational harm throughout their lifespan. I specialize in working with adults who have or are currently experiencing gender-based violence , intimate partner violence and sexual violence. I enjoy supporting clients with processing past trauma, enhancing coping strategies, and re-connecting to their bodies and sense of self.
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy is grounded in the knowledge that we are all naturally inclined towards healing and inherently contain the strengths and ability to heal. Therapy can help to spark and speed up that process while drawing out and highlighting those strengths. My role as your therapist is to create the space for this healing to happen with care and safety, and guide you along the way with skills and therapeutic interventions. I bring my genuine warmth and compassion to my therapeutic work, and operate from a position of non-judgement that views each person within their environment. My methods include EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy and also connecting to the wisdom of our bodies and welcoming the parts of ourselves that were lost or fought for our survival. In therapy I cover: experiences of complex trauma, intimate partner violence, historical and intergenerational trauma, dissociation, and parenting as a trauma survivor.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we are living in a society that prioritizes productivity over wellbeing, and that oppression and systemic violence are key mechanisms that maintain this society. I also recognize that the mental health field has been an active participant in the oppression of marginalized folks. I see it as my ethical duty to resist systems of oppression through direct action and advocacy, and that centering wellbeing (my own and my clients) can be an act of resistance.
