About My Clients
My clients tend to be individuals and couples between 20 and 50 who have noticed an acute or recurrent struggle with effectively managing self and relationships. Some client's concerns are isolated to a specific or current relationships and others have a more systemic struggle that has historically complicated all relationships. My clients have told me they appreciate my compassionate yet direct approach that balances science with emotions and skills with acceptance.
My Background and Approach
Before I became a Psychotherapist I worked in the corporate sector and quickly saw the consequences of a widespread lack of emotional and relational intelligence. Because of this need I returned to graduate school to learn how person and client centered approaches could help individuals, couples and families lead happier and more connected lives. I spent the first few years of my clinical work at a renowned trauma practice in Chicago (Center for Contextual Change) where I was trained in systemic approaches toward the management of Trauma, PTSD, Personality Disorders, Anxiety and Depression. Because of this invaluable experience my work will always be trauma informed and sensitive. Over the several years I have devoted the majority of my training to relationship centered approaches such as PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy) in which I am a Level II Certified Clinician. I am also trained in and utilize Gottman, EFT, DBT, CBT, and ACT approaches in my work.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My work is informed by a deep belief that relationships are both the greatest source of joy and distress in our lives and that effective management of relationships can greatly increase ones overall health and resiliency. I believe that we are by default relationship oriented and that the only way to survive life is to have and engage in healthy friendships, intimate relationships and supportive communities. I also believe that relationships are one of the hardest things to get "right" and that our histories, beliefs, families of origin and previous relationships are a source of both trauma and healing. Through evidence based practices I work to help clients increase knowledge and skill use while managing the challenges of life and their mental health.
