About My Clients

Perhaps you are going through a rough patch and could use support and guidance, or perhaps you’ve struggled for many years and would like to see things differently, live things differently and are ready explore counseling. Perhaps you are struggling with loneliness or isolation, anxiety, or overwhelm. Many of my clients identify as queer, gender-fluid, and/or neurodivergent. I have a particular interest in and understanding of the grief around change and loss.

My Background and Approach

I draw upon collaborative, evidence-based practices to help you find balance and meaning, tp help you to identify and build on your strengths, while providing the support needed to get you there. I am a creative, neurodivergent (ADHD-I), atheist/eXvangelical, demi-pan, cis-woman in my early 60s. I am a sister, daughter, a single mama of five (now-adult) children (queer/non-binary, neurodivergent, poly). I am one who has survived many transitions (exiting fundamentalism, divorce, illness, return to university). I've worked 17 years in social services, and been a service user myself, so I understand the difficulty of navigating systems of care, and the healing power of therapy. When appropriate, I use my experiences to build rapport, provide a safe & welcoming space, and support as needed. I have an eclectic, holistic approach to therapy, incorporating attachment & family systems theory. I strive be trauma-informed, anti-racist, neurodivergent- and gender-affirming.

My Values as a Therapist

My perspective is (“big picture”) systems-oriented and informed by the work of social justice and anti-oppression writers and activists (Paolo Friere, bell hooks, Angela Davis, Dorothy Day, Cornel West, Roxanne Gay, Delores Huerta/Cesar Chavez). My clinical specialties: anxiety, depression, life transitions, existential concerns, complex grief, poly/open, communication, ADHD, LGBTQ+, self-worth, gender identity, aging. In sessions together, my primary focus is to create a safe, compassionate space where you can openly explore your thoughts and feelings. I will meet you where you are in your life journey, listening to your needs, and helping you identify your desires and goals. Together, we will find effective tools and strategies to empower you from the start. Whatever you choose to work on together, I'd be honored to walk alongside you in your journey. If any of this hits right, reach out. Let’s see if we might work together. ------- Warmly, Amy
