About My Clients
Do you find yourself plagued by emotions too big for the circumstances you find yourself in... swept downstream in turbulent emotional currents of intense fear and anger... frozen in numbness, withdrawal and emotional shutdown... struggling to find or stay on the path of your authentic self amidst the maelstrom of others' norms and expectations? I have helped many like you learn how to safely navigate these challenges, shed the unnecessary and toxic intrusions of the past, and find their voice.
My Background and Approach
I have built a therapeutic mosaic from a myriad of approaches based on a deep understanding of the nature of our nervous system, suffering, and the evolutionary and biological bases of what we need as humans to not just survive, but to thrive. This includes attachment theory, Buddhist philosophy, Somatic Experiencing and parts-based approaches to understanding ourselves and others. Central to my therapy is attuning to your experience of yourself, others and the world and building off of what already promotes an experience of safety and resilience. We will explore the ways you have come to relate to yourself and others which arose from adaptations to toxic past experiences and how to relinquish their hold on you, while retaining that which is affirming and supportive of your authentic path. This includes learning natural "hacks" into our survival programming to help us accurately discern safety from danger and disrupt maladaptive intrusions of fight, flight, freeze or fawning.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Guiding values for me include integrity, wisdom, humility, harmony, and service. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I know the pain of what it's like to live decades where my authenticity was largely hidden from myself and others. From this experience, those kind and wise psychic midwives who helped me emerge from the darkness, and the deep freedom and joy that has emerged, I feel a spiritual calling to support others in their own paths, whereever that may lead. I feel a deep kinship with those who have known experiences of erasure or oppression, whether that was within their family or at larger societal levels based on gender, sexuality, skin color, nationality/ethnicity, spirituality, weight, or disability. Personally, I love nature, fostering beauty and playing outdoors... whether it's tending my plant and animal kin, hiking, or scaling rock cliffs and mountains... and, as a seeker of deeper understanding, I can often be found "nerding out" on podcasts and books.
