About My Clients
The saying is no one likes change but babies. I can relate to that. Change is not only scary, but it is difficult to do. I am therapist who recognizes this. I enjoy rolling up my sleeves and getting into the muck. Together, we will dive into how the change is impacting you no matter what it is-side by side. The thing about change is it happens to all humans whether we want it or not. How to cope with the change is the key. By looking for a therapist, it's a step in the right direction.
My Background and Approach
I have a variety of trainings because I strongly believe one size does not fix all. I work from a psychodynamic approach, but I also work with CBT and Motivational interviewing (which is different then what the name implies). I tailor an approach to you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
From the time of high school, I have always been passionate about social issues. I have attended many a demonstration. This is due to my belief that we all have to the responsibility to speak up and be heard on all injustices. I took my children to the black lives matter march in our community because it is also our responsibility to the next generation to exercise our rights as citizens. I believe every individual struggles with life change. However, from my training as a social worker, it is not the same for everyone due to privilege, racism and discrimination. I am culturally aware while at the same time self-aware to check myself. My belief is simple that people who identify as a member in the LGBTQ community have a different challenges but also similar challenges (family issues, parenting issues, relationship issues.) We are different but we have the same life stressors, just to a varying degree.
