About My Clients
Are you a nurturer who feels discouraged to the point of despair about the state of the world and the future? I can help. I work with women and helping professionals (teachers, medical providers, therapists, and faith leaders) on burnout prevention and recovery and on resilience building. Working with people as a nurturer or helper is particularly demanding, and our own trauma shows up in this work daily. Our own healing is an essential part of our capacity to do this work long-term.
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy focuses on relationships as agents of healing, rather than on techniques. I don’t give “homework” or fixate on your symptoms or diagnosis; instead, I listen intently to what feels most painful and urgent to you, and we work on healing those areas of emptiness or woundedness. That’s not to say that symptoms don’t improve with this kind of treatment! My patients have successfully recovered from burnout, suicidal thoughts, cutting, obsessive-compulsive rituals, out-of-control behaviors, trauma, trust issues, fears of intimacy, chronic depression, panic attacks, and feeling “stuck” or stalled in their lives. By focusing our attention on what your symptoms may be stemming from, rather than only on the symptoms themselves, we can figure out what things mean. Rather than trying to get rid of parts of you that have been labeled “wrong” or “bad,” we’ll work to understand those parts of you as we strengthen the parts of you that have helped you survive and overcome.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am committed to the values of social justice, intersectional feminism, and fundamental kindness and respect for self and others. For over 15 years, I've worked with BIMPOC and LGBTQIA+ populations as a therapist. I am abortion-positive and am actively involved in reproductive justice organizations, including a national organization I work with as a consultant that supports independent abortion care providers. I am constantly working to maintain the integrity of my practice organized around values of respect, kindness, and accountability. I will never be perfect, but I hope to be always working toward a more authentic and grounded participation in social justice work.
