My Approach to Helping
summer (they/them) is a strengths-based and trauma-informed counseling practitioner with experience in talk, body, and spirit-centered therapies. their approach emphasizes authentic care, compassion, and respect for the wholeness of their clients. a foundational focus is meeting folx where they are, as they are, with a practice rooted in anti-oppression, emergent strategy, and decolonization. summer strives to co-create collaborative, empowering experiences of being-with that invite us to lean into our discomforts and ultimately, our growth. they understand the bodymind as inherently intelligent and adaptive, trusting each client's capacity to tap into these organic resources. summer also understands genuine relationship as a necessary facilitator of individual and collective healing—they hope to offer you a therapeutic alliance in which you feel truly attuned with and fully embraced in all your complexity.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
my biggest belief is in you :) in every person's capacity to spark & experience transformational change. i don't subscribe to any one therapeutic method. i believe that my communities have already had too many systems forcibly imposed on them. in the words of adrienne maree brown, my work "moves at the speed of trust." i trust in your innate wisdom and unique experiences to guide how we choose to heal. i work with trauma that is complex, chronic, historical and generational. i believe trauma is any experience in which our safety, dignity, and/or belonging are threatened. i believe trauma to be disconnection at any scale, in any realm. therefore, i also believe in the importance of connection. my biggest hope is to offer clients a foundational & meaningful connection in therapy. this foundation supports building other vital connections: connections with self, with world, with purpose, vision, action, & with community. we're in this, together.
