About My Clients
My practice mainly consists of young professionals from diverse backgrounds, who are navigating careers, and balancing family, friends, and the increased challenges of daily life. I work with individuals who are struggling with grief and loss from the Global Pandemic. I have successfully provided treatment for individuals who have had adverse childhood experiences which can manifest in adulthood as depression, anxiety, ptsd, or having trouble setting goals for the future.
My Background and Approach
I am a former restaurateur , co-owner of a very successful French/Asian restaurant in NYC. I went back to school to train as a Clinical Psychotherapist, and Creative Arts Therapist. I have post graduate training in Psychoanalytically Informed Approach working children and adolescents, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Authentic Movement, and Gottman Method. I take a holistic approach treating the whole person, mind and body. I like to work collaboratively finding what works best for each client, based on personality, and life experiences. I believe psychoeducation and skills training can be important for client to utilize in between sessions.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
It is my understanding that "mental illness " is a normal response to an abnormal situation in a person's life. I believe maladaptive behavior (is a behavior that is causing harm, or dysfunction in a persons present day life) was at one time was adaptive behavior to survive. Alison believes that addiction and trauma are closely related, and it is possible to unlearn maladaptive coping mechanisms, and learn adaptive coping mechanisms that can lead to a more a more engaged life.
