About My Clients
I provide psychotherapy for youth ages 12 and older, individual adults, and families. My specialty is children and adolescent mental health. Other specialties include depression, anxiety, trauma, mindfulness, peer relationships, family dynamics, behavioral issues, neurodiversity (Autism Spectrum, ADHD), creative arts, and Filipino-American values. My fluency in Filipino (Tagalog) is conversational. I have extensive experience working with Filipino and BIPOC families with history of child abuse.
My Background and Approach
With experience in the home, school, and medical settings, I have provided 1:1 therapy, family counseling, support groups, Mental Health First Aid training, and coalition-building, as well as direct supervision for clinicians and interns for a non-profit organization. My therapeutic style is based on a holistic sense of healing by utilizing elements of clinical interventions, recognizing ancestral practices, and addressing systems of oppression. I am trained in Problem-Solving Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I strongly believe in a client’s right towards self-determination and that every person navigates and processes differently. With a person-centered and pro-people approach, I value strengths and explore areas of growth in ways that are understanding of the individual, community, and the systems we live in.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I firmly believe in your right towards self-determination. You have agency to make choices, determine goals, and heal at your own pace. By recognizing there are power dynamics at play in a therapist-client relationship, I use a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to start where you are, work with you horizontally, and address the needs you may have. Self-expression and making genuine connections with others are what drives my clinical work. There is an art to how we feel and how we navigate our peer relationships and family dynamics. As a trained clinician, I believe in the arts to be therapeutic and that holistic health must recognize ancestral practices. With an ecological framework, we are impacted by systems of oppression, which include but are not limited to racism, sexism, classism, imperialism, colonialism, and transphobia. In a system that is not built for our marginalized communities, I value your genuine liberation to live life radically without shame.
