About My Clients
You are a professional or a student and you are tired. You have worked hard to get where you are, but you are not happy. You are overwhelmed and worried about the future. Maybe you are even having intrusive thoughts, panic attacks, or nightmares. You either have great self-care routines and they just aren't cutting it or you just don't even have the time for self-care. Either way you are drowning. Something has to give and it is time to take stock and make some changes.
My Background and Approach
The disappointment of working so hard to achieve a goal, only to find out that it is exhausting to maintain the level of functioning that is demanded of you when you get there is not uncommon. I have worked in community services for over a decade and I have been where you are. Many people are feeling burned out, and if you are a professional working in a helping field, being burned out is only the beginning of the deep emotional wounding that can happen due to over work and exposure to trauma. I have witnessed so many of my colleagues over the years struggle with low pay, long hours, and big hearts. The system is broken, I won't deny that! However, change starts with gaining perspective and gaining a clear perspective starts with a little bit of caring for yourself. It is also about finding a sustainable way to work in a high-demand field or making the difficult choice to change careers. These are big life transitions and cultivating self-compassion can help us through them.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I work from a lens of oppression and I believe that the way that we try to maintain self-esteem is not healthy in our society. Through cultivating self-compassion we can create an existence for ourselves that is meaningful beyond the workday. When we do that, we have more of ourselves to give to the people and causes that mean the most to us. Social justice needs people who believe in themselves and I hope that this is the small seed I can plant in hearts of the people I work with so we can lift each other up.
