About My Clients
Alongside you, I commit to building a space that can be durable enough to hold against the most violent storms of anxiety, depression and loss, yet, remain tender enough to hold the realities of a wounded heart, a confused mind and a tender voice. I believe education and understanding are important keys to navigating yourself and those with whom you are in relationship. A genuine understanding of your life through narratives, themes, diagrams and pictures can be the key to a therapeutic process.
My Approach to Helping
My name is Erik Johnston, and I am a depth therapist. Being a depth therapist means I seek to explore your inner feelings, thoughts, sensations, and intuitions as a way of creating options and new ways of being in your outer life. I seek first to support and know you – as a unique individual or unique couple – so that your unique goals and hopes are brought to life - your unique life. In therapy with me you will be offered the opportunity to change yourself and your behavior towards health and growth. In some ways I do this like many therapists, through talk, body awareness, mindfulness: ultimately gaining a further understanding of the whole you. In other ways I am quite unique. People are often surprised at how flexible I am in my ability to work with both women’s and men’s issues – working with both the feminine and the masculine aspects of our nature.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have personal beliefs. They inform my perspectives on love, relationship and what is or is not sustainable ways of being. Some of the stories we live are not supporting our contentment, hopes or growth. My goal is to find importance of your beliefs, of your story and of how your values and beliefs serve you. When our internal world grows and changes so also will our outer world begin to change and grow. Much like a plants - of which there are many in my office! - growth requires similar elements and with attention on what is unique each life can grow according to it's needs.
