About My Clients
Are you afraid that your proclivities towards kink or polyamory/ethical non-monogamy are due to trauma? I would almost certainly disagree. Are you afraid that if you see a therapist for your trauma they'll attribute your kinkiness or poly-ness to that trauma? I won't. Ever. Imagine a life without anxiety, inexplicable anger, deep sadness, or panic attacks. You're feeling like there must be a better way to live; I can help you find it.
My Background and Approach
My background is in community mental health. This means that I've treated folks from all walks of life: people experiencing homelessness, wealthy business owners, folks on the autism spectrum, folks on the LGBTQ+ spectrum... You name it. I'm comfortable talking to almost anyone about almost anything. I'm also specifically trained as a trauma therapist; I am working towards certification for EMDR and Internal Family Systems therapy, as well as have training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. All together, this means that I have the skills and desire to help get you back to your normal, whatever that is, as efficiently as possible.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My biggest values as they relate to therapy are unconditional positive regard and the desire to learn. Unconditional positive regard means that I will always appreciate my clients for who they are. The desire to learn means that when I don't know something-- and there are so very many things I don't know-- I'm willing and eager to learn more about it. Are you a member of a subculture I don't have experience with? I'll take the time to do research so you don't have to feel like you're teaching me. I also value the inherent dignity and worth of every person. I am extremely interested in eradicating homelessness, providing free, high quality education to all children, and shutting down the school-to-prison pipeline.
