About My Clients
Chances are, if you're reading this, you are already noticing there are behaviors or patterns in your life you think could be better, and think it could be helpful to talk to someone about them. Someone who's not a friend, parent, teacher, or co-worker; someone who is impartial, someone with nothing to gain from you going one way or another. Engaging in counseling is a brave choice, and I am here to give space to your burdens so that you can continue on your journey that much lighter.
My Background and Approach
I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from UNC Charlotte in 2016, where I also got my BA in Psychology and Anthropology. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I am also a certified yoga instructor and may bring body-movement and mindfulness-based treatment into session where appropriate and desired. I draw from several different counseling theories including Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, but strive to be individual and intersectional in my approach with helping clients towards their goals. I find that an eclectic style often works best and that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that real, sustainable change is not only possible, but achievable in each individual. No matter how stuck we feel or how long problems have sustained, there is a true, authentic self inside each of us. When we quiet the voices of self-doubt and self-criticism and allow that true self a chance to speak, we get that much closer to living full, authentic lives. I am a visual learner with an active imagination, and I will often share the images and words that come to my mind when hearing my clients' stories to help see those problems in new ways. Metaphor and story telling have existed in humans from the beginning, and they carry real power in our hearts and minds. I am also a nerd who wants to know what tv shows you are watching and what video games you are playing. I'm excited to get to know you and walk with you on your mental health journey. It doesn't have to be a quest you undergo alone.
