About My Clients
I sincerely believe that everyone’s spirituality, race, culture, gender, and sexual orientation must be valued because all remain as vital components that compose who we are. I am dedicated to helping members of the LGBTQ community who struggle with depression, anxiety, coming out, life transitions, HIV diagnosis, relationships, and social factors. I have also dedicated my life to helping those who suffer from addiction issues, including alcohol, drugs, sex, and gambling.
My Background and Approach
I regard my counseling philosophy and approach as holistic, addressing individuals’ concerns with their thinking, emotions, physical influences, and spiritual outlooks when treating the whole person. I favor supporting the client in the here and now but will refer to their past to facilitate change for their future. I consider my approach eclectic, meaning that I pull from many disciplines. I utilize Existential Therapy, where clients attempt to find meaning in their lives. I believe that all people are capable of change and will strive to become the best they can be, which lies in the beliefs of Person Centered Therapy. Consequently, Gestalt Therapy is a factor in my approach because I want to help and treat the whole person in the here and now. Through insight and use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I work with the client to change maladaptive beliefs and/or behaviors. Together, we will create a plan to help you cope with life issues more effectively.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe counseling is a confidential process intended to aid you in dealing with your self-doubts, life uncertainties, and personal concerns. I believe counseling will help you better understand your behaviors, thoughts, and feelings while you discover more effective coping skills. Counseling is about determining whether to adapt or to accept your situation. I believe that humans possess an innate ability to adapt to their environment, and sometimes those adaptations are no longer needed. Because of this, I will strive to help you figure out what adaptations work for you and which are causing you problems. On the other hand, I also believe accepting yourself, knowing your circumstances, and choosing to change what you want to change, will improve your psychological health. It is essential for you to feel unrestricted, safe, and feel accepted for who you are. Therefore, together, we will figure out the best way for you to express who you are and help you accept you for you.
